About Melting Pot ToursMeet Lisa and Diane Scalia, the sister team behind Melting Pot Food Tours, the original food tasting tour company in Los Angeles. Los Angeles area natives of Italian descent, the Scalia sisters have been enamored with food for most of their lives—inspired by the sensory experience and lifelong memories it carries for them. They launched Melting Pot Food Tours in 2008 to share their favorite experiences with locals and visitors. Lisa, a caterer and private tour guide, and Diane, a professional chef, cookbook author, and food writer, have over 25 years of combined experience in the food industry and culinary arts.
Together, the Scalia sisters make the perfect food tour tasting team, sharing their experience and passion to lead guests on a truly unique culinary experience. Lisa Scalia has a love for “anything pastry,” such as pies and tarts. An avid traveler, Lisa has wandered through Europe and to all corners of the United States on several extended road trips. Her goal is to enlighten people about the most exceptional, little known, independently owned and operated restaurants and shops in Los Angeles. Diane Scalia is a self-taught chef who appreciates world cuisine. Diane started a catering company after college with the intention of eventually opening her own small café. Her catering business led to teaching and speaking engagements. She spent two years as a corporate chef and has written a cookbook, Angel Food, published in 1996. Additionally, Diane has spent significant time as a food stylist and consultant.
Together, the Scalia sisters are well qualified to select the most interesting and intriguing neighborhoods and foodie hot spots for their top-rated food tasting tours. Melting Pot Tours has been featured in the Los Angeles Times, Daily Candy, Tasting Table, AAA World Magazine, AARP online, Pasadena Magazine, and Pasadena Star News, as well as CBS Evening News and the KTLA Morning News with Gayle Anderson.
